Investigations into the flow behavior of microparticle seedings

Flow measurements are of growing importance in many areas of the economy and society. Particularly with regard to sustainability and energy efficiency, the flow behavior of car bodies, wind turbine blades or aircraft must be permanently optimized.

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is often used for flow measurement, whereby fluorescent sea-thing particles are added to the flowing medium as tracers. Since the production of the microparticles is very complex and expensive, a system consisting of a seeding generator and a suction unit for particle recovery is to be realized in this thesis within the framework of a European Research Council project.

Subsequently, a parameter study is to be carried out with the aid of image processing methods, on the basis of which the flow variables, the efficiency of the recovery and the optimization potential for future applications are to be evaluated.
